Alcogal se involucra en la comunidad

Throughout 2014, the team at Aleman, Cordero, Galindo & Lee has participated in multiple corporate social responsibility (CSR) activities, thereby effectively contributing to the development and improvement of communities in need within our country.

In April, the firm supported Special Olympics by purchasing T-shirts for the organization’s annual marathon. Close to 20 members of Alcogal’s team, including employees and their families, participated in this pleasant activity.

In May, associate Mario Vlieg led a workshop titled “Legal aspects of NGOs in Panama” as part of the training program organized by Grupo Julmos to maximize the abilities and the knowledge of the organizations and individuals who participate in “Heroes por Panama” (“Heroes for Panama”).

Alcogal is also an active member of Junior Achievement. In this context, associates Sophia Lee and Anel Roach gave a series of lectures about basic economic and entrepreneurship matters to pre-school and elementary school students in private and public schools in Panama City.

In August, Alcogal contributed to Fundayuda by acquiring tickets for “Una Peticion Rosa” (“A Pink Petition”), an event which sought to raise awareness about breast cancer and to promote early detection. Several of our employees, along with their families, enjoyed an afternoon full of activities and launched sky lanterns with their wishes into the night.

In October, in the context of the breast cancer awareness month, Alcogal sponsored interested employees’ participation in the “Rappel solo chicas 2014” (“Just-for-girls rappel 2014”) activity, which was organized by the Panama Rappel Club in support of the pink ribbon campaign. Our female employees had the opportunity to listen to the testimony of a breast cancer survivor and were educated on the importance of early detection. Furthermore, with the help of experts, they were able to practice rappelling, which turned out to be quite a fun challenge!

These activities were complemented by our internal recycling campaign, the pro bono legal work that some of our lawyers handle for the Panamanian chapters of The Nature Conservancy and Special Olympics, as well as the firm’s donations to, and sponsorships of, events organized by NGOs such as Casa Esperanza, Operation Smile, among others.

We hereby thank our employees who donated their time and effort to make these activities possible. We are committed to promoting the well-being of the communities that surround us and will continue to remain very active in CSR-related matters throughout the years to come.
